Greenville, ILL. -- Principia College Men's Soccer traveled to Greenville, IL for their third conference game of the season. With David McLeod-Warrick not available on the evening,
Max Bowen played goalkeeper in his first collegiate start. It was a gusty evening and PCMS played with the wind against them in the first half, but still managed to create several promising chances.
Carson Hussey made a heroic save showing little regard for his body as he slammed into the post, just managing to head the ball off of the goal line. The Principia defense was organized and managed to keep Greenville away from the goal until the 59
th minute when Greenville opened the scoring on a breakaway.
PCMS fought hard and demonstrated resilience to continue creating chances. Their break came in the 85
th minute after
Kaleb Keller was taken down just outside of the 18-yard box. On the ensuing free kick, Keller once again showed the power and precision of his left foot, sending the ball into the roof of the net with an unstoppable strike.
PCMS controlled the first period of overtime, and continued to create chances through the beginning of the second period. Greenville earned a throw-in deep in Principia's half in the 105
th minute of play. The throw-in was cleared out of danger, but sent back in with a cross that dropped in the box and was poked home by Greenville forward Jared McPeek.
PCMS faces Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday, October 13
th at 3PM at Bracewell Stadium in Burlington, Iowa.
