Principia is happy to announce that Dana Byquist will be doing commentary for the away men's soccer game during Homecoming this year. Easygoing and gentlemanly, Byquist was also a fierce competitor and an indispensable member of the men's soccer team all four years of his collegiate career. A 2008 graduate of Principia College, he was named SLIAC Player of the Year his senior season in 2007, and helped the team win the SLIAC Championship for the second time in Principia Men's Soccer history.
Byquist credits head soccer coach Vitalis Otieno as a huge part of his character development and with teaching him valuable lessons that he still applies in his life today. He is also part of the Thunder Chicken rugby family and played on the team his junior and senior year. He is very grateful for his time in athletics and his education. He says that his professors were amazing and prepared him for everything life has thrown at him.
Byquist also has a strong background in Christian Science, having worked as a research specialist for Longyear Museum in Boston. He has been published in the Christian Science Journal and on longyear.org, including an excellent video on the first three editions of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
Byquist began giving back to his alma mater in 2011 as an assistant coach for the soccer team, along with helping when he could with rugby. He was assisting the rugby team in 2013 when they won the USA Rugby DII 7's National Championship. In 2014, Byquist became the Buck House Resident Counselor and continued to support the programs that helped shape him. Currently, he is working as a financial advisor for Triad Financial Group in St. Louis. He also still plays soccer and ice hockey with alumni in the area.
October 15th-17th is Principia College's Homecoming and Parents Weekend. A fun fact about Byquist is that he hasn't missed a homecoming since he graduated, and he always looks forward to seeing familiar faces and playing in the alumni games.
