BATESVILLE, AR – The Principia men's soccer team opened SLIAC play on the road at Lyon College on Saturday afternoon. After a scoreless opening half, the Scots struck three times in the second half to hand the Panthers a 3-1 defeat.
The two teams played an even first 45 minutes with neither side able to break through. Principia generated three first-half shots and three corner kicks, while the Panthers' defense kept Lyon off the board despite a few early chances.
The game changed quickly coming out of halftime as Lyon opened the scoring less than two minutes into the second half. The Panthers stayed within one for the next 20 minutes before the Scots doubled their lead in the 68th minute. Lyon then added a third goal in the 83rd minute to put the game out of reach. Travis Peng scored his first goal as a Panther in the 86th minute, but it was too little too late for a Principia comeback.
The loss drops the Panthers to 2-3 on the season, with all three defeats coming by identical 3-1 scores. The team returns home on Tuesday, September 22 to take on WashU at 7:30 PM CT.
