BATESVILLE, AR – With the clock about to hit zero, the Principia women's soccer team found a moment of magic to come away with a point in its SLIAC opener at Lyon College on Saturday. Zoe Houseman scored with one second remaining to pull the Panthers level at 2-2 and secure a dramatic road draw.

The tying goal came from a spectacular individual effort by Amarachi Ejimadu to create one final chance. Ejimadu received the ball near midfield with 10 seconds left and took off up the right flank. She then sent a perfectly placed ball across the box through multiple Lyon defenders and into the path of a streaking Houseman. Houseman met the pass and knocked it past the diving goalkeeper with 0:01 showing on the clock.

It was a fitting end to a big day for Ejimadu, who also scored Principia's first goal. Lyon struck just over five minutes into the match, but the Panthers answered two minutes later following a corner kick. After a scramble in the box, Stella Cathie passed the ball to Ejimadu, who put it away for her second goal of the week to bring Principia back even. Cathie picked up her conference-leading third assist of the season.

Lyon responded almost immediately, with Jessica Steele scoring her second goal of the match in the 10th minute to put the Scots back in front. Principia created several chances to equalize before halftime, including four shots on goal from Dachelle Carter, but Lyon goalkeeper Sydney Wolf kept the Panthers from finding another breakthrough.

In the second half, the Scots held Principia to just two shots and forced Isabella Brancati into four saves. Brancati's final stop came with two minutes remaining, helping keep the deficit at one and leaving the door open for the Panthers' last-gasp opportunity.

The result gives Principia a 0-0-1 record to begin SLIAC play, and with postseason positioning often coming down to narrow margins, Saturday's exciting finish ensured the Panthers left Batesville with something to show for their effort.

Principia will remain on the road for its next match, traveling to Iowa for a non-conference clash with Coe College on Wednesday, September 23 at 5:00 PM CT.
