KANSAS CITY, MO – The Principia women's soccer team made it two wins in a row on Monday morning, defeating Spurgeon College 2-0 for its second consecutive shutout. The Panthers wasted no time taking control, scoring twice in the opening five minutes and keeping the Knights off the board the rest of the way.

Shayla Kelley got Principia off to a flying start as she put the Panthers in front just 50 seconds after kickoff. She struck again at the 4:15 mark, this time off an assist from Stella Cathie, to give the Panthers an early two-goal cushion and complete the first brace of Kelley's career.

Principia continued to generate opportunities throughout the first half, forcing Spurgeon's goalkeeper into eight saves before the break. Panthers keeper Isabella Brancati turned away all three of Spurgeon's shots on goal to send Principia into halftime with the lead intact.

While neither side found the net in the second half, the Panthers remained on the front foot as they earned seven corners and did not allow a single shot on goal after halftime. Principia finished the match with a 20-6 advantage in shots taken. Brancati and the Panther defense secured the team's second clean sheet in as many games.

Principia improves to 2-1 on the young season and will now host its official home opener on Friday, September 11 against Elmhurst University at 5:30 PM CT.
